FAQ
Common questions.
Answers about privacy, the medication, eligibility, and how Seriva works.
Privacy and insurance
- Does Seriva bill my insurance?
- No. Seriva is cash-pay only. Nothing routes through insurance, so there is no claim, no diagnosis code, and no insurance explanation-of-benefits tied to your care.
- Will my care appear on my insurance record?
- No. Because we do not bill insurance, there is no insurance transaction. Your care is between you and the clinician.
- Does the public website collect health information?
- No. The marketing site collects only your email address and consent to communicate during the waitlist phase. No health information is collected or stored here. We do not place third-party advertising trackers on this site. A full Privacy Policy and Notice of Privacy Practices will be posted before any health information is collected. See Privacy for the current placeholder.
- Will my employer or anyone else find out?
- Seriva is cash-pay and does not bill insurance, so your care does not appear on an insurance record an employer or family plan administrator could see. We are not an employee assistance program and do not report your use to any employer. Your care is between you and the clinician.
- How is my health data protected?
- The public marketing site collects no health information. Once you begin the clinical intake, a Notice of Privacy Practices will govern how your health information is handled in the clinician relationship. That notice will be posted before any health information is collected.
The medication
- What is naltrexone?
- Naltrexone is an FDA-approved, non-controlled prescription medication taken as a daily pill. It is not an opioid, does not cause dependence, and does not require tapering to stop. A clinician decides whether it is appropriate for each patient based on a review of their history.
- Does Seriva guarantee that naltrexone will work for me?
- No. Seriva does not make medical-outcome promises. Whether the medication is appropriate and how it affects an individual is a clinical determination. A licensed clinician reviews every intake and makes every prescribing decision.
- Is naltrexone controlled or addictive?
- Naltrexone is not a controlled substance and is not habit-forming. You can stop taking it without tapering. The decision to start or stop is made in coordination with your clinician.
- Do I have to stop drinking completely?
- No. Seriva is for adults who want to cut back or stop. Your goal is something you discuss with your clinician. The clinician reviews your history and decides whether naltrexone is an appropriate option for the goal you describe.
- Is it safe to drink while taking naltrexone, and what are the side effects?
- Whether drinking is safe for you while taking naltrexone, and what side effects to watch for, is a clinical question your clinician answers based on your history. Naltrexone is FDA-approved and non-controlled, but it is not appropriate for everyone. Read the medication guidance your clinician and pharmacy provide, and raise any concerns with your clinician.
- What does the medication cost?
- Medication cost is not included in the membership and depends on your pharmacy. Generic naltrexone is available at many pharmacies for a low cash price. Your clinician will send the prescription to a pharmacy of your choice.
Eligibility
- Who can use Seriva?
- Adults who want to drink less or stop and who are interested in a clinician-reviewed medication option. Eligibility is assessed by the clinician during the intake review. Not everyone who applies will be appropriate for the medication.
- Is this rehab, AA, or a 12-step program?
- No. Seriva is not residential treatment, group meetings, or a 12-step program. It is online access to a licensed clinician who reviews your history and decides whether a prescription medication is appropriate. There are no meetings to attend.
- What states does Seriva operate in?
- Seriva operates only in states where it is licensed to, and it is launching one state at a time. The waitlist is how you learn when service opens where you are. Join it and we will notify you when service is available in your state.
- Can I use Seriva if I am in active withdrawal?
- No. Seriva is not for medical emergencies, detox, or acute withdrawal management. If you are in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911.
Service and pricing
- Who makes the prescribing decision?
- A licensed clinician makes every prescribing decision. Seriva does not automate clinical judgment. The clinician reviews your intake, checks for safety considerations, and decides whether naltrexone is appropriate for you.
- How does pricing work?
- Seriva is private, cash-pay, clinician-reviewed care. You see the exact price before you start. A one-time consult fee covers the clinician’s review of your intake; if you are not an appropriate candidate for naltrexone, you do not continue. Medication is billed separately by your pharmacy.
- What does the membership include?
- Clinician review and the prescribing decision, ongoing online refills and check-ins, and secure messaging with the care team. It does not include the cost of the medication itself.
- Is the pharmacy pickup discreet?
- Your prescription is sent to a pharmacy you choose, and you pick it up like any other prescription. The medication is generic naltrexone. Seriva does not control what a given pharmacy prints on a label, so ask your pharmacy directly if you have questions about packaging or labeling.
- Can I cancel?
- Yes. You can cancel your membership at any time. There is no long-term commitment and no cancellation fee.
